Mobile technologies are taking over the planet! Well, they seem to be anyway. Today's touchscreen phone interfaces alone allow users to experience, and consequently expect, much more from the web. Mobile device adoption rates leave no doubt that soon more users will access the web using mobile technologies than a desktop or laptop machine.

In this session, we'll look at what's working now in mobile strategies, from custom applications to email/site optimization, and how to best prepare for the eventual integration of mobile communications into your marketing campaigns. We'll look at best practices, success stories, and tips for low-hanging fruit optimizations and integrations. We'll also review donor and constituent survey results regarding mobile communication preferences.

Guess what? You can quantify a person's engagement with your organization. No more wondering who to target for your next fundraiser or who to mobilize for your next lobby day or who to ask to phonebank. Why? Because you know exactly where your supporters stand on your Engagement Pyramid, you know where you want them to go, and you know how you're going to get them there. At Groundwire, we've developed the strategic framework for building relationships and we've built the technology to support it.

We'll demonstrate the Engagement Pyramid model, exploring tactics from Facebook to face-time for deepening constituent relationships. We'll also dig into relationship-management databases and how this critical technology is radically changing the way you can manage your connections with people. Finally, we'll leave you with a way to sort through all the options and choose tools that grow relationships at each level of the pyramid.

Multichannel donors are gold. Annual revenues are often ~4 times that of direct mail only donors, with higher retention and much better net so that the lifetime net value of multichannel donors can be ~10 times that of single channel donors. This session is for those who are ready to break down the barriers, conduct multichannel marketing and capture the gold. We'll talk about integrated online / direct mail / telemarketing donor acquisition and retention programs and what seems to be working well at Amnesty International USA and other nonprofits. We will also hear a case study from Amnesty International USA that outlines the success and challenges they experienced in marshalling direct mail, email, social media and mobile to engage donors and mobilize a rapid, grassroots response to the human rights crisis in Egypt. Then we'll dive into the major barriers to multichannel marketing such as organizational structure, separate online and offline budgets, and lack of data integration. We'll talk about practical ways nonprofits are overcoming these obstacles to conduct effective multichannel, integrated marketing campaigns leading to lots of gold (ie, multichannel donors.)

Working on, leading, or planning for a project at your organization? Join us with a specific project in mind as we explore a novel way of getting organizational buy-in for projects. We’ll talk about the method we used when we redesigned our website, started our intranet, and built our AMS. By developing a strong relationship between IT, communications, and other departments we’ve been able to take combative, resistant project environments and turn them into cooperative efforts with positive outcomes. We found that the key to this change is to center the project on the needs of content owners and move IT into a supportive role. Want to know more? We’d love to see you at our session!     We encourage you to have a specific project in mind, bring questions, and think about what actions you’ve taken that have helped make change a positive experience for the people you work with!

Small nonprofits often suffer from inadequate attention to technology planning. Lacking the resources to staff a comprehensive in-house team, the responsibility generally falls to office administration, a finance director or manager, or, occasionally, program staff. Some basic guidance in how to plan an IT budget and prioritize IT decisions can go a long way to ensuring an IT platform that is supporting the organization.

More than simply radio, the family of Tech Nation programs seeks to  educate the public on the issues of science and technology. They  demonstrate that all aspects of our lives are affected, and to make  reasonable decisions, we must understand much, much more -- as  individuals, as communities, as nations and as a global society. Dr.  Gunn is not so much interested in the opinions of the day; she is more  interested in how people come to form these opinions, especially when a  comprehension of the underlying technology and science is essential.

Tough economic times call for creative and innovative techniques to stretch nonprofit resources.  Instead of reducing or cutting important community services, one strategy is to partner with a fellow non-profit.  Once a parternship has been approved by the board and an executive management team, many unforeseen challenges arise. These challenges may include (and are not limited to) changes to the overall program strategy, finding an adequate location, ego battles between agencies, cultural clashes in fundraising and branding strategies, addressing two distinct client/student populations, and the mindfulness (aka thick skin) of dealing with informed failure. In this session, we will discuss a few best practices, share our personal successes and challenges, and discuss board and executive participation for a successful nonprofit collaboration - all within a landscape of increasing demand for services and decreasing funding.

We can build email lists, send messages to them, and get some percentage of responses that turn into letters or petition signatures that wind up in the inboxes of critical decision makers. We can engage audiences on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and dozens of other online communities.

But is this enough? How do we get people to take action offline in their communities to support these online efforts to achieve real political or social change? In the end, community organizing is about boots on the ground.  Many organizations, large and small, lack a community organizing perspective or experience that enables them to transfer online strength to offline engagement.

This panel will include key people with experience putting 'boots on the ground' in new organizations or organizations that are unfamiliar with organizing. All are skilled in the core aspects of advocacy organizing and intimate with online tools and practices. They will help you create offline organizing systems that better support your programs, fundraising, and communities. Special attention will be paid to doing this in organizations unfamiliar with or resistant to offline organizing.
